A suspected shark attack victim's son was swimming just six metres away when his father was attacked and presumed killed off a southern Perth beach this morning.
Emergency services workers are continuing the search for a 51-year-old man who was snorkelling at the popular beach this morning with his son.
Police have confirmed the missing man is father of three Brian Guest, who is also believed to live in an estate near the beach.
Family friend Steve Kent said the family was in shock and supporting each other through the tragedy.
''It's a shock loss for the family. He was a loving father and husband who appears to have been taken by a shark.''
Mr Kent said the man's 24-year-old son was snorkelling with his father for crabs in shallow waters when he lost sight of him.
''At the time he didn't sight what happened. People on the beach saw and heard things in the water.''
